William "Bill" H. Nold, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026 at CHI St. Francis Nursing Home under the care of CHI Hospice, Breckenridge, MN.
Bill was born June 20, 1932 in Wahpeton, ND, to George and Helen (Lehman) Nold. He attended Wahpeton Publics Schools, graduating in 1950 from Wahpeton Senior High School. During the fall of 1950, he enrolled in the Drafting and Estimating Program at NDSSS.
Early the following year, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He completed basic training in San Diego and advanced training in Camp Pendleton. After training he was sent to Korea and served in the war zones as a forward observer. When not on assignment, Bill was an ammunitions corporal who monitored supplies and outfitted each mission with the proper ammunition.
After eleven months of active duty, Bill returned to Wahpeton and NDSSS to complete his studies. While there he was co-captain of the Wildcats football team, playing as center and graduating in 1954. He was granted an honorable discharge in 1959.
Bill married Darlene Renville in 1954. They made their home in Williston where he was employed by Amerada Oil as a draftsman. They moved back to Wahpeton and began operating the 6th St. Store on the corner of 6th and 6th. Bill married Mary Dosen in 1969. They made their home in Wahpeton and later the Fergus Falls area. He was later employed at Steve Myhra Sports Center and Marine. He was also employed at the Trading Post and Minn-Dak until his retirement in 2002.
He always had a knack, love and a talent for designing and building. If he had a piece of scrap wood, there was a use for it. He along with fellow Elk members, were instrumental in renovations at Elks Point on Wall Lake.
He took great pride in his planter boxes, birdhouse, and feeders. He paid attention to the details of his projects. If you knew Bill, you were most likely the recipient of one of his creations. Bill enjoyed fishing, planting and sharing his garden produce, and watching a good old western. He also loved to visit and reminisce. If you had a topic, Bill had a story.
Bill was a former member of the Elks Lodge 1093, American Legion Post 30, and VFW Post 612.
He is survived by his children, Bill (Vickie) Nold of West Fargo, Kevin (Patty) Nold of Ottertail, Robin (Jerry) Dimmer of Breckenridge, Dennis (Dana) Nold of Chelsea, MI, Tony (fiancé, Jennifer Hillyer) Dosen of Reno, NV, and Michael Nold of Fergus Falls; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; three nieces, Paula, Julie, and Janet and their families, along with a multitude of lifelong friends.
