William "Bill" Marfell, 76, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, April 2, 2026 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
William John Marfell was born January 3, 1950, to Donald and Shirley (Jenks) Marfell in Menomonie, WI. He attended Best Valley Country School, Downing Elementary School, and Boyceville High School, graduating in 1968. After high school he attended University of Wisconsin Superior from 1968-1972, earning a degree in business.
On April 3, 1976 Bill married Amy Jean Schroeder at Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls.
Growing up on a dairy farm, Bill learned early on to be a hard worker. In high school he worked as a milk truck driver, picking up cans of milk. During high school and college, Bill worked at Lorenz Excavating. After college, he worked at Ecolab and H.B. Fuller in chemical sales. The relationships with his customers were his favorite part of the job and something he missed upon his retirement in 2012. Bill moved to PioneerCare in 2021.
Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Studebaker Drivers Club, and he helped with Walk of Flags. He enjoyed restoring lawn tractors, going to tractor and old car shows, watching NASCAR races, and Gunsmoke. The thing he loved most of all was attending the grandkids music and sports activities. He also enjoyed his weekly donuts at church which they faithfully saved for him.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Amy; his son, Jon; his parents, Donald and Shirley Marfell; brother, James Marfell; father-in-law, Kenneth Schroeder; mother-in-law, Ruby Schroeder; brothers-in-law, Don Drinkman, Ray Zempel, Wray Deacon, and Larry Wold, and nephews, David Drinkman and Thomas Drinkman.
Bill is survived by his son, Ben (Lora) Marfell of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Michelle Wittenburg of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Abigail (Jacob) Wolter of Alexandria and Emma (Cole) Mahler of Moorhead; siblings, Mary Zempel, Judy Olson, Susie Deacon, and Carol (Ray) Talmage; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Dick) Kennedy, Myran Rian, and Mary Szigety, and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at PioneerCare for your kindness and support you gave to Bill and our family. The love you showed did not go unnoticed.
