Vernon Berger

Vernon Berger, 93, died Sunday, June 22, 2025 at his residence.

Vernon was born July 9, 1931 to George and Flora (Jacobson) Berger in Fergus Falls, MN. He attended Hillcrest High School.

Vernon served in the United States army for three years. He attained the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged. After returning to Fergus Falls, he worked for the railroad.

On June 12, 1955, he married Shirley Nelson in Battle Lake, MN. They just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Vernon worked at Metz bakery for 41 years and retired in 1995.

Vernon and Shirley have three children, Daryl Berger of Fergus Falls; Gregory Berger (Julie) of Saint Paul and Cheryl Reed of Fergus Falls.

Survived by his wife; children; grandchildren, Jessica Beske, Nikki Berger, Alesha (Austin) Berger, Brittney Berger, Christina (Barry) Summers, and Chad (Amy) Reed; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie (Brady) Young, Daityn (Nyah) Beske, Dawsen Beske, Quenton Beske, Hailey Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Tabitha Summers, Kyler Oftelie, Brody Hilde, and Eva Hilde; great-great-grandchildren, Eldyn Young, Watsyn Young, and Wilsyn Young; sister Geri Elshaug; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Flora Berger; sisters, Clarice Picco and Ethlyn Duckwitz; brother, Harley Berger; and grandson John Arthur Reed.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2025 at Zion Lutheran in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, Minnesota
