Thomas Beason, 73, of Battle Lake, died Saturday, May 2, 2026 at his residence.
Thomas Bruce Beason was born January 12, 1953 to Gerald and Doris (Welker) Beason in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1975 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. He went from their ROTC program directly into the Air Force on active duty from 1975-1979 and served as a 1st Lieutenant. After his 4-year term was up, he joined the Air Force Reserves for an additional two years where he was promoted to Captain. During these years, Tom continued his education and received a Master's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT.
Tom was a software engineer for several decades, living in Alexandria, VA, Dallas, TX, Salt Lake City, UT, and Denver, CO, before taking early retirement at age 55 and choosing Battle Lake in early 2007.
He was an active member in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning. He loved to travel for both work and pleasure, including Germany, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Fiji, Australia, Mexico, Egypt, Israel, England, and Wales.
Tom loved living in Battle Lake. A high school athletic himself, he was an active booster for all the local high school sports teams. He was always sharing stories of how the teams were doing with his family. In addition, throughout his years in Battle Lake, Tom spent a lot of time at the Battle Lake Senior Center, visiting with the residents, playing Pinochle (well most types of cards), and Bingo!
Tom is survived by his brother, Michael (June) Beason of Rapid City, SD; two sisters, Sherry Beason of Burnsville, MN and Susan (John) Kaulbars of St. Louis Park, MN; nephew, Ryan (Annemarie) Kaulbars of Nashua, NH; two nieces, Jamie Hower, wife of William Young, of Rapid City, SD and Stephanie Kaulbars of St. Francis, MN. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother.
