Steven Brust, 82, died September, 6, 2024 at the Broen Home Fergus Falls, in the loving arms of his devoted wife Barbara.
Steven James Brust was born March 12, 1942 in New Ulm, Minnesota. He spent his infancy in Alabama, where his father was stationed at an army base prior to his World War II deployment. Steve attended Robbinsdale Public High School.
As a younger man, he was active in the horse industry, training and transporting horses, including time spent on the Quarter Horse race circuit. He went on to live most of his working life in Delano, MN, where, in addition to his day job, he farmed and raised Limousin cattle. He worked for over 25 years at Eagan-McKay Contractors as a welder, equipment operator and mechanic, and eventually moved into the town of Delano with his second wife Dorothy and her two children.
After he retired, Steve and Dorothy moved to a lake home on Long Lake in Erhard, Minnesota, which he remodeled for year-round living. Dorothy succumbed to cancer at a too early age, after 16 years of marriage to Steve. Eventually, Steve married his current wife, Barbara Maack-Brust, and they continued to live on the same Long Lake in a different home. They enjoyed spending winters in Mathias, Texas. When their health started to decline, they moved to an Assisted Living Facility. Steve spent his final days in LB Broen Home nursing and hospice care facility in Fergus Falls. Steve passed away September 6, 2024, 3 days short of his 18th Wedding Anniversary with Barbara.
Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara Maack-Brust, his sister Barbara (Jay) Dougherty, step-son Jon (Nicki) Brandenburg, step-daughter Sarah (Andy) Schumacher, and grandchildren Stephanie Pollock, Brieanna Pollock, and Brandon Hokkanen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Sadie (Enobo) Brust, brothers Gary Brust, Bob Brust and Jim Brust, Jr., and the children from Steve's first marriage - Becky (Brust) Pollock, infant Holly Brust, and an unnamed still-born child.
