Soren E. Kugler, 94, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, September 16, 2023 at his residence.
Soren Edwin Kugler was born May 14, 1929 to Alfon and Frances (Schleske) Kugler on the family farm in Friberg Township. He attended country school and worked on the farm. Upon completion of his schooling, he continued to work on the farm with his parents and brothers.
On February 7, 1953 Soren married Mavis Clausen at Trinity Lutheran in Fergus Falls. The couple farmed and raised their family on the original Kugler farm. In 1986, they operated the lunch counter at the Fergus Falls Sales Barn with Mervin and Ervena Budke; they also worked auctions with the B & K Lunch Wagon.
He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he held several offices and also served on the Country School Board.
Soren enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards, especially pinochle, but the time spent with his family was what he valued most.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfon and Frances Kugler; brothers, Jerry (Myrna), Raymond (Frances), Harry (Nora), and Orman (Elsie), and sisters, Irene (Henry) Rocholl, Iona (Inar) Norgren, Celia (Clifford) Norgren, and Altha (Delwyn) Schmidt.
Soren is survived by his wife, Mavis Kugler of Fergus Falls; children, Jeanette (Dave) Ripley of Erhard, Kirby (Jean) Kugler of Erhard, and Keith (Diana) Kugler of Webster, MN; grandchildren, Scott (Jana) Ripley of Montevideo, Eric (Sadie) Ripley of Grand Forks, ND, Josh (Brittney) Kugler of Bend, OR, Krista Kugler of Fergus Falls, Jared (Kathleen) Kugler of Erhard, Trista Kugler of Bloomington, Abby Kugler and Bella Kugler both of Webster; great-grandchildren, Sam Ripley, Hope Ripley, Toby Ripley, Grady Ripley, and Ethan Ripley; brother-in-law, Johnny Clausen, and sister-in-law, Shirley Moen.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers who made it possible for Soren to be at home. A special thank you to “Soren’s Angels” Misty, Anna, and Tess.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service at the church.
