Shirley Ramona Berger

Shirley Berger, of Fergus Falls, passed away Tuesday May 12 at Pioneer Pointe in Fergus Falls.

Shirley Ramona Nelson was born December 2, 1935 to Edwin E. and Gilma (Fronning) Nelson in Fergus Falls. She graduated from Battle Lake high school in 1953. After graduation she worked in the insurance field for over 30 years retiring in 1992.

On June 12, 1955 Shirley married Vernon Berger in Battle Lake. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and the VFW.

She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Shirley loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She always made Carmel rolls when she would watch them. This led the kids to call her grandma Roll, a name she loved being called.

She will be remembered as a beautiful lady with a big heart and a great smile.

Preceding her in death was the love of her life, Vernon; her parents Edwin and Gilma Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Evonne and Paul Sorenson; brother and sister-in-law, Blaine and Liz Nelson; sister and brother-in-law Ione and Gordie Pesola; sister Darlene Nelson and grandson John Arthur Reed.

Shirley is survived by her children, Daryl Berger of Fergus Falls, Gregory (Julie) Berger of St. Paul and Cheryl Reed of Fergus Falls; grandchildren Jessica Beske, Nikki Berger (Matt), Alesha (Austin) Sando, Brittney Berger, Christina (Barry) Summers and Chad (Amy) Reed; great-grandchildren MacKenzie (Brady) Young, Daityn Beske, Dawsen Beske, Quenton Beske, Hailey Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Tabitha Summers, Kyler Oftelie, Brody Hilde and Eva Hilde; great-great-grandchildren Eldyn Young, Watsyn Young, Wilsyn Young and Harlyn Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Fri, May 22, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, MN
