Rodney Floyd Stroud

June 2, 1940 — April 16, 2026

Rodney Stroud, 85, of Fergus Falls, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Pioneer Pointe in Fergus Falls.

Rodney Floyd Stroud was born June 2, 1940, to Floyd and Lillian (Davis) Stroud in Minot, ND. He graduated from Minot High School in 1958. He attended Minot State Teachers College to pursue his degree in Engineering/Drafting.

On January 13, 1962, Rodney married Lois Marsh in Minot, ND. Rodney and Lois would be inseparable until Lois passed on August 10, 2022. That same year, Rodney began his career as an Engineer with the Civil Service working for the Strategic Air Command at Minot Air Force Base. During his time with the SAC, he designed many logos and insignia which were officially implemented on uniform patches for use by SAC personnel.

Rodney and Lois joyfully welcomed the birth of their first son, Scott, on September 13, 1962. Three more sons would follow: Shawn in 1964, Steve in 1966 and Shannon in 1972.

In 1965, Rodney joined the Great Northern Railway Engineering division and in short time became a supervisor within that division. His 30-year career with the railroad brought many promotions and relocations which included Fargo ND, Fergus Falls MN, Minneapolis MN and Fort Worth TX. Rodney retired from Burlington Northern Railroad as a Manager of Rail in 1995 and shortly thereafter, he and Lois returned to the Otter Tail area.

Rodney was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and any work that involved being close to nature. He loved music, American history, genealogy, sports, classic cars and Western movies. He particularly enjoyed grilling and spending time at the lake with his grandkids.

Preceding him in death were his wife and best friend, Lois Stroud; his parents, Floyd and Lillian Stroud; and his brother, Melvin Stroud.

Rodney is survived by his sister, Rochelle (Jim) Glowaski of Augusta, KS and brother, John Stroud of Denver, CO; his children, Scott (Sue) Stroud of Fergus Falls MN, Shawn (Amy) Stroud of Salinas CA, Steve (Diana) Stroud of Phoenix AZ and Shannon (Shauna) Stroud of Duluth MN; his grandchildren, Ryan (Katie), Jake (Kari), Amanda (Jesse), Grant (Hannah), Kendra (Jordan), Sabrina, Mikayla, Bronson, Tony (Lexi), Ben, Ethan and Salem; his great grandchildren, Annalise, Aria, Emma, London, Audrey, Maddox, Silas, Knox, Braxton, Remi, Millie, Indie, Kingsley and Sammie.
