Richard Field

Richard Duane Field, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2026, surrounded by love and the family who meant so much to him.

Richard was born April 17, 1934, to Vivian and Fern (Lambert) Field. He was raised in Fergus Falls, along with his siblings Arlene, Eugene, Marlene and David. He grew up with a strong sense of faith, family, responsibility, and love for his country- values that remained at the
heart of his life.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. His commitment to serving others and his country was a reflection of the character he carried throughout his life.

Richard married Mary (Hull) in 1954. In their 18 years together, they welcomed 5 children - Fonda, Brenda, Randall, Timothy and Lisa.

In 1975, Richard married Beverly Zent (Boeder). Through their marriage, they lovingly united two families, adding Beverly's five children to the family mix - Bonnie, Kim, Dean, Dawn and Kelly. Together, Richard and Bev merged and enjoyed a family filled with love, laughter, challenges, celebrations, and countless memories.

A hardworking and entrepreneurial man, with the soul of an artist, Richard founded numerous businesses, including RD Field Construction, Skyvision Inc and Field Trips. With his father, he co-founded Field & Farm, which would later become incorporated into Fleet Farm. He took great pride in his work and the people he worked alongside, but his greatest accomplishment was always his family.

Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his Labradors. He was very artistic, specifically delighting in his woodworking projects later in life. He and Bev traveled often, attending seven satellite launches across the world, including Russia, China, and French Guyana. Most recently, they spent 15 years wintering at their home in Arizona and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Fiji.

Richard believed deeply in God, family, and country. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he trusted in God's promises throughout his life. He understood that family was one of God's greatest gifts, and he treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. His love for them will continue through the generations that follow him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Fern Field; his in-laws, August and Dorothy Boeder; his brother, David Field; his sister, Arlene Ledbetter; brothers-in-law Robert Ledbetter and Doug Thompson; a special nephew, Brian Field, and his son, Dean Zent.

He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly; his children, Fonda Knudson, Tim (Cristi) Field, Randy Field, Lisa (Roger) Ross, Brenda Grundy, Bonnie (Keith) Praska, Kim (Bruce) Fuhrman, Dawn (Kevin) Bratlien, and Kelly Zent; his brother Gene (Linda) Field; sister Marlene Thompson; sister-in-law, Sandra (Everett) Hovland; brother-in-law, Harold Boeder; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Richard leaves behind a lifetime of hard work, service, love, faith, and memories that will be carried in the hearts of all who knew him. Though his family will deeply feel his absence, they can find comfort in the promise of his faith- that death is not the end, but the beginning of
eternal life with his Savior.

His family gives thanks to God for the gift of Richard's life, for the years they were blessed to have him, and for the love he gave so freely.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls, with visitation one and a half-hours prior to the service.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, MN

Military Participation: Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 and Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30
