Randall James Andrews of Fergus Falls, MN-known to nearly everyone as Randy-passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at age 77, after battling Alzheimer's disease for some time.
He was born on December 29, 1948, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to David Charles and Dolores Adelaide (Melchiors) Andrews, and grew up in the Fox Valley alongside three brothers. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1967 and earned a degree in industrial technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1971.
On November 8, 1969, he married Dee Ann Pokrand in Viroqua, Wisconsin; they shared fifty-six years of marriage. The marriage was blessed with son, Brent, in 1971 and daughter, Amy, in 1977.
Randy dedicated his life to building. Starting as an estimator, he eventually advanced to project and construction manager roles, working for various general contractors across Wisconsin and Minnesota. The majority of his career was with Miron Construction in Appleton, though he also worked at numerous other firms, building structures like nursing homes, public school buildings, a student dormitory with underground parking at UW Milwaukee, and he was the staff expert on building water and sewage plants across various communities. He retired in 2015, and was known for his hard work, fairness, and problem-solving skills. He was well-liked by colleagues both in the office and in the field.
His passion for building continued at home, where his family remodeled most of their homes. A skilled handyman, Randy loved working with wood. He enjoyed crafting with his kids-whether wood bricks, Lincoln Logs, or doll houses, there were many elaborate creations to be built.
During his prime he enjoyed deer hunting with his dad, father-in-law, and his son, often spending opening day at his father-in-law's farm. Later in life, he loved puzzles, word games, and word searches, along with spending time with his family and his beloved cat, Kali.
He was a quiet man with a great laugh, which he used often. As his children grew, jokes went both ways. Most evenings, if you sought Randy, he was relaxing in his favorite easy chair, reading the local newspaper. When his grandsons were young, if you asked them "who is the silliest person you know?" they answered with a big grin, "Papa!!"
Randy actively participated in every church his family considered home, taking on many roles over the years. His favorite was teaching adult Sunday school and preaching when needed.
His family emphasizes this: Randy was always willing to help anyone in need and be there for them. During his time as a church treasurer, people passing through town would often call for assistance, and sometimes he helped out of his own pocket.
He is survived by his wife, Dee Ann, of Fergus Falls; his son, Brent (Kari) of Fergus Falls; his daughter, Amy, of Neenah, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Micaela of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Hunter and Timothy, both of Fergus Falls; bonus grandchildren Jeremiah and Jericha; his brothers, Michael (Miriam) of Auburn, Pennsylvania, and Mark (Jean) of Kaukauna, Wisconsin; and his nephews, Mark (Kate) of Manhattan, New York, and Peter (Lorena) of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dolores Andrews, and by his brother, Donald Andrews, along with his in-laws Harold and Ruby Pokrand and his brother-in-law Gene Groves.
A private memorial service for the family will be held, to be announced at a later date.
