Peter Erick "Pete" Wasberg, 57, of Fergus Falls, MN passed away peacefully in his home as result of a brain tumor on November 16, 2025.
A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Pete brought joy, steadiness, and laughter into every circle he was a part of. He was a generous, dependable presence in both his family and community, and his life is remembered with deep gratitude and love.
Pete was born on July 2, 1968, in Park Ridge, IL, to Nancy (Norgren) Wasberg and Sven Arne Wasberg. He grew up around Minnesota with his older brother, Chris, and younger sister, Wendy, and graduated with the Fergus Falls Senior High School class of 1986. He went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Psychology in 1990.
Pete dedicated over 34 years to Otter Tail Power Company, where he was known for his integrity, leadership, and genuine care for others. He concluded his career as Director of Human Resources & Safety, serving on the executive team beginning in 2008. Before becoming director, he worked as a human resources manager for three years. Prior to joining the Human Resources Department, Pete spent fourteen years in various positions within the Milbank, SD, Bemidji, Hallock, and Crookston Customer Service Centers. He was promoted to division manager in 1997, area manager in 2002, and also spent a legislative session working in the company's Legislative Affairs Department.
While he was a conscientious and engaged employee, Pete always made time for the people and pastimes he loved. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing many rounds at Pebble Lake Golf Course, listening to music and quoting lyrics, and making his family and friends laugh. His sense of humor, quick wit, and willingness for anything made him a joy to be around.
Service to his community was one of the cornerstones of Pete's life, always offered with quiet humility. He served on the Fergus Falls Public Library Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for Crookston National Bank, and was active in the Fergus Falls Noon Rotary Club. Pete also served on the All-College Advisory & Advancement Board at the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) for nearly 24 years and contributed to numerous UMC committees, including UMC Teambackers, Enactus Advisory Board, chancellor and search committees, and the Valley Technology Board of Directors.
In 2014, Pete received UMC's highest individual honor, the Torch & Shield Award, recognizing his leadership and efforts to advance the development of the university. In 2025, he was further honored with a scholarship in his name: "The Pete Wasberg Empowering Futures Scholarship," presented by Otter Tail Power Company President Tim Rogelstad.
Pete is survived by his mother, Nancy Wasberg; siblings, Chris (Joni) Wasberg and Wendy (Marc) Terris; nieces and nephews, Samuel (Abby) Wasberg, Emma, Luke, Sophia, and Matthew Terris; great-nephew and -niece, Isak and Josie Wasberg; and many many more family members who were blessed to love and be loved by him.
Those who knew Pete will remember his deep generosity of his time, resources, spirit, and love. He made people laugh with his bubble-blowing, special nicknames, card tricks, jar of peanut M&Ms, adventurous food choices, and endless jokes. He will be remembered for his amazing knuckleball in family whiffle ball; his status as a Master Angler; his invention of the "Egg McWarberg" and founding of "Camp Pete"; his good taste in music; teaching wrestling moves like the half-nelson; playing "Lightning Ranger" on the piano; his fuzzy head and pretending he had hair; his ability to remain calm under pressure; and, above all, for being such a fun, steady, and loving presence.
Pete showed up. He showed up at sporting events wearing the right team gear, at dance recitals with a bouquet of flowers, at birthday parties with special cards and gifts, in various states across the country to visit family and friends, at funerals of colleagues, every day at work, and most importantly, for anyone who needed him.
One of Pete's often-shared sayings came from a Chinese proverb: "The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second-best time is now." Those who remember Pete know that, by quietly serving his community and caring for the people he loved, he planted countless seeds over the years. Those seeds have grown into the support system that surrounds us now. His love and presence remain steadfast and wise, strong and enduring; rooted in all of us like a well-tended tree.
The family kindly requests no flowers or donations. Instead, please honor Pete by cherishing your favorite memories with him and, in his own words, "Make it a great day!"
