Patrick Stephen Helling, known affectionately as Pat by his friends and family, left this world too soon on November 17, 2025, at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Born on November 13, 1984, in Fosston, Minnesota, Pat's early life was filled with the love and laughter that would become his hallmark. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Pat was the beloved husband of Amy Helling and the proud father of their son, Gradie, who at 11 years old, reflects the best of his father's spirit. He was the cherished son of Craig and Vicki Helling of Staples, Minnesota, and a caring brother to Mia, Kylee, and Tyler. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a beacon of love and stability for them.
A graduate of Dakota Community Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota, Pat's dedication to his craft as an Electrical Lineworker was evident throughout his career. He began his journey at Aevenia Power out of Moorhead, MN and eventually moved on to Minnkota Power in Grand Forks, North Dakota. After moving to Fergus Falls, he joined the team at Ottertail Power Company. Most recently, Pat brought his expertise and passion to Ambor Structures, where his contributions were invaluable.
Beyond his professional life, Pat's interests were as wide-ranging as they were heartfelt. He was an avid golfer, a skillful hunter, and a patient fisherman. Pat found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing time spent with friends, family, and his beloved dogs. His quick wit and endless supply of jokes made him the life of every party. Those who knew him will remember the sound of his laughter and the warmth of his smile.
Pat's legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity. He approached life with an open heart and an open hand, ready to support and uplift those around him. His funny and loving nature made him a friend to many and a stranger to none. Pat's generosity extended beyond words, always willing to give his time, energy, and resources to anyone in need.
As we say goodbye to Pat, we celebrate a life well-lived. His memory will continue to inspire us to embrace life's joys, share laughter freely, and love without reservation. Patrick Stephen Helling will be deeply missed, and his light will continue to shine in the lives of those he touched.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents on both his maternal grandparents, Bud and Ruthie Rystad; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Verona Helling, and great-grandparents, Eddie and Inga Hanson.
He is survived by his wife, Amy and son, Gradie; his parents, Craig and Vicki; siblings, Mia (Chris Breitenfeldt), Kylee (Payton Jordahl), and Tyler (Emily Molitor).
Pat's family will hold his memory dear and honor his legacy by living life to the fullest, just as he would have wanted. His spirit will forever be a guiding presence in their lives, a reminder of the love and joy that he brought into this world. Rest in peace, dear Pat, until we meet again.
