Norman Donald Schoening

Norman Donald Schoening, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, August 30, 2026, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

He was born on December 5, 1931, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Bernard and Anna (Schulz) Schoening. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanual Lutheran Church in Friberg Township. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1949. After high school, he began work as a pipe liner for the RH Fulton Company in Dodge City, KS.

On June 14, 1959, he married Donna Sperr at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Together they followed his job with RH Fulton around the country until returning to settle in Fergus Falls in 1966. He then worked for Great Plains Natural Gas until his retirement.

Norman was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as an elder and played an active role in the building of the new church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting, and spending time with family on West Battle Lake. He also loved taking his family on camping trips out west. And after the kids were grown, he travelled with Donna around the US and to Japan, Australia and Europe.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers and their wives, Robert (Elaine) and Harold (Mary) Schoening; and in-laws, Irving Jandt, Jean (Eldon) Rund and Ethel Sperr.

Surviving family includes his wife, Donna Schoening of Fergus Falls; three children: Nancy (Wayde) Anderson of Redmond, Oregon, Mark (Tracy) Schoening of Underwood, and Diane (Norbert) Schmitt of Nottingham, England; four grandchildren: Ashley (Adam) Fronning of Underwood, Kurt (Ashley) Schoening of South Haven, Jacob (Melissa) Anderson of Elizabeth, Colorado, and Katelyn (Danny) Plank of La Pine, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Albri, Avery, Azlyn, Asher, and Axton Fronning, Isabella and Jasmine Schoening, Ryleigh and Emilia Anderson, and Keirdyn and Kelson Slater; in-laws Shirley Jandt and Jim Sperr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Preschool, American Heart Association or Morning Watch.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN.

Interment: Trinity-Faith Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
