Mavis Keithley

Mavis Amy Bjornstad-Keithley, was born in Fergus Falls, MN on February 27, 1937. She lost her mother shortly after her birth. Mavis passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at park Gardens in Fergus Falls, with her family by her side.

She was raised on her family farm in Underwood, MN by her father, Maylon Joseph Bjornstad and her paternal grandmother, Karen Bergette Ness-Bjornstad. Mavis moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1950 where she met and married Herbert Joseph Hatzenbeler.

Mavis is survived by her three children, Lynn Marie Nehk ( Hatzenbeler), Amy Lee Meder (Hatzenbeler), and David Alan Hatzenbeler, as well as five grandchildren, Eric Crookston, Jennifer Trochman-Hurnblad, Laren Karzag-Fritz, Kyle Wheatley, Eric Wheatley, and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her first husband Herbert Joseph Hatzenbeler, her second husband Arthur Theodore Keithley, and her parents Amy Karen Bjornstad (Sletner) and Maylon Joseph Bjornstad.

She attended Leitch School and country school in rural Underwood and graduated from Battle Lake High School. Mavis looked forward to spending summers on the Bjornstad family farm with her father and three children each year. She loved her pets, especially her cat Simba and dog Chopper. Mavis worked in food service for the local elementary schools in Santa Barbara and later worked at See's Candy for 25-years before retiring.

Mavis was cremated at her request and will be laid to rest at Skibtvedt Cemetery in Battle Lake, MN next to her mother, Amy at a later date in a private family ceremony.
