Marilyn Elyvon Boese, 87, of Fergus Falls passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on April 13th, 2026, under the care of Vivie Hospice.
Marilyn was born April 30th, 1938, in Trondjhem Township east of Rothsay to Ruby and Calmer Moen. She attended Carlisle grade school. At a young age she learned to chord music by ear on the piano while her dad played the fiddle. She continued to play piano over the course of her life and entertained many people at various gatherings. In 1956 she graduated from Fergus Falls High School. That same year on August 18th Marilyn married Lloyd W. Boese in Rothsay, Minnesota.
Together they farmed for almost twenty years north of Fergus Falls. They moved into Fergus in 1973 and she worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Broen Memorial home. Marilyn retired from Broen after 23 years of caring for residents with kindness and respect. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. In addition to piano, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and baking along with visiting which almost always included a pot of coffee and treats. She was a dog spoiler.
When her husband Lloyd passed away in 2004, Marilyn took on a new hobby of traveling the country. Her first trip was to Arizona with her puppy-dog Fluffy. Over the next twenty years she made many enjoyable trips to visit family and friends. Her trips included traveling to the states of California, Texas, Florida, Wyoming, the Carolinas and many places in between.
Besides her husband Lloyd, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, daughter RaeAnn, son David, daughter-in-law Stacy Boese, son-in-law Michael Oien, brother Richard Moen, sister-in-law Denise Moen, sister-in-law Linda Christenson and brother-in-law Harold F. Boese.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Oien of Rothsay; four sons: Paul (Vicky) Boese of Fargo, Dean (Sue) Boese of Fergus Falls, Michael Boese of Fergus Falls and Steven (Christy) Boese of Elk River; nine grandchildren: Missy (JJ), Corin, Justin (Bri), Nikki (Henry), Matt (Annie), Taylor, Amber (Adam), Henry and Hannah; nine great-grandchildren: Lillian (Toby), Brody, Nathan, Rylin, Livvy, Emmy, Freddie, Ayden and Fisher; one great-great-granddaughter: Knoxley; three brothers: Clifford (Marilyn) Moen of Fergus Falls, Arnold (Kay) Moen of Rothsay, Wayne (Doris) Moen of Rothsay and sister-in-law Marilyn A. Boese of Fergus Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Please honor Marilyn by taking the qualities of simplicity, love and kindness and demonstrating them throughout your day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to any of the following organizations in her memory: Friborg Lutheran Cemetery, Rothsay, Trinity Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, Lake Region Healthcare Foundation, The Broen Memorial Home, or Vivie Hospice.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls, and will resume one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
