Marilyn Berg

February 25, 1945 — September 7, 2025

Marilyn Joy Berg, 80, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, after seven journeys and courageous battles with cancer. Marilyn was cherished as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose generous spirit, hospitality, and kindness touched all who knew her.

Born on February 25, 1945, in Alexandria, Minnesota, Marilyn was the daughter of Leland and Grace Bennett. After graduating from Alexandria High school, she went to Aakers Business College, and then Marilyn launched her career as Continuity Director at KILO radio station, where her organizational flair and warm demeanor were put to good use. In 1966 she married the love of her life, Rod Berg embarking on a partnership that would last almost six decades. A move to Grand Forks would have her putting her skills to work as a secretary in the Education Department at the University of North Dakota, contributing her talents until she made her most significant career move: becoming the "CEO" of the Berg family. Marilyn took immense pride in nurturing her husband, Rod Berg, and their two children, Brian and Beth, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to their upbringing.

Once Brian and Beth grew older, Marilyn returned to the workforce at Fergus Enterprises before fully retiring to pursue her joys - which included spoiling her grandchildren, honing her bridge game, reading, travelling (she finally hit her 50 states goal), golfing and continuing her tradition of warm hospitality for friends and family. Her home was a place of laughter, delicious meals, and lively gatherings, always hosted with grace and infectious enthusiasm.

Marilyn's life reflected deep involvement in her community. She was a proud member of P.E.O. (we tried to get her to share the secret behind the name, and she never would), Mrs. Jaycees, the VFW Auxiliary, homemakers and the Friends of Fergus Falls library. She embodied friendship in her cherished book clubs, bowling group (the "Happy Hookers,") and longtime friendships. Her faith guided her, as she participated actively in First Lutheran Church and found great joy playing handbells and serving wherever she was needed.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Marilyn will remember her as a true friend, a caring neighbor, and someone always ready to celebrate the accomplishments of the people she loved. She relished every opportunity to share her family's stories and take pride in their successes.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Rod; her son, Brian (Shawna) Berg; her daughter, Beth (Chad) Hansen; grandchildren Sam and Kylie Berg and Thomas and Brooklin Hansen; brother Larry (Jayne) Bennett; nephew Dusty; sister-in-law Gloria Berg; niece Julie (David) Alstad and their children Nathan and Ryan, and many dear friends and loved ones whose lives she so generously touched.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who brought comfort during Marilyn's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the First Lutheran Church or PEO, causes Marilyn loved.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held on September 26th at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
