Lyle Barringer

August 19, 1930 — January 24, 2026

Lyle Edward Barringer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at the age of 95.

Lyle was born August 19, 1930 to Wilfred and Louise Barringer, on their farm in Akron Township. He started school in the fall of 1935, at a country school two miles from their farm, which he walked to and from many times. Lyle graduated from Rothsay High School in 1947, and later attended Wahpeton, ND School of Science.

On November 23, 1950, during a snowstorm, Lyle married the love of his life, Margaret Marie Poppel. The two of them celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on November 23, 2025. Lyle and Margaret lived on a farm in Meadows Township until 1990. Together they built a beautiful life as proud parents to five children: Wylene, Leon, Randy, Beth, and Peggy.

Lyle farmed 700 acres of land and had cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep. In the late 1970's, Lyle started machining for Beacon Engineering in Rothsay and worked there for 10-15 years. He also worked as a Wilkin County Ag Inspector.

In 1990, Margaret and Lyle built a lake home on South Lida. Lyle loved to fish. He took many of his grandchildren and even great-grandchildren fishing. Lyle worked part-time as a machinist at Attachments International in Pelican Rapids, until he retired in 2003.

For many winters, Lyle and Margaret wet to Mesa, AZ where they had a place in Towerpoint Resort. While in Towerpoint Resort, Lyle enjoyed horseshoe, cards, and woodworking. He also sang in the Towerpoint Chapel Choir. Margaret and Lyle enjoyed square dancing and old-time ballroom dancing as well.

In 2011, Lyle was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. At first, Lyle chose not to receive treatment for the cancer, but after much prayer and discussion with the cancer doctor, Lyle decided to try a treatment. So, in 2014 Lyle started taking Imbruvica, which was an experimental drug to fight his aggressive cancer. The cancer medication seemed to work and extended Lyle's life by twelve years.

Lyle and Margaret were faithful members at Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard, MN. They attended weekly Bible studies and Lyle sang in the choir, and as a member of the worship praise team.

In 2021, as Lyle's health declined and he couldn't take care of the lake home anymore, Lyle and Margaret moved to Mill Street Assisted Living in Fergus Falls.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Wylene (David) Danielson, Randy (Denise) Barringer, Beth Dupree, and Peggy (Scott) Peterson; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Wilfred and Louise Barringer; brother, Ken, and son, Leon.Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2026 at the Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service.
