Lorraine Mavis Holst

Jun 27, 1936 — Aug 26, 2026

Lorraine Holst, 90, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, August 26, 2026 after a short stay at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.

Lorraine Mavis Olson was born June 27, 1936 to Selmer and Mildred (Chilson) Olson in Veblen, SD. She graduated from Veblen High School.

On June 29, 1958 Lorraine married Leslie Holst at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Veblen.

She worked for Northwestern Bell in Sisseton, SD as a telephone operator, Veblen Hospital for nine years until they closed, and one year at the Sisseton Hospital. In 1970 they moved to Dane Prairie Township. She began working at Lake Region Hospital as a CNA, working in several positions; the nursing home, short stay, rehab, and her favorite was working in the nursery with the newborns. Lorraine retired in 2005, after 35-years.

Lorraine was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD.

She loved gardening, knitting, baking, and cooking. She also loved to read and watch westerns, especially John Wayne. She enjoyed the horses that her son used to show. Lorraine loved the many shelties she had over the years, and her current dogs Abby and Jake.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Leslie; her son, Leslie Robert Holst; her parents, Selmer and Mildred Olson, and her brother, Jerry Olson of Rapids City, SD.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Loren Holst of Fergus Falls; brother, Glen (Lani) Olson of Rapid City, SD, and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A special thank you to the staff at the Pioneer Retirement Community and Vivie Hospice for their wonderful care.
