Lorraine Drews

Lorraine Heggestad (Mrs. Gerald) Drews, age 92, of Fergus Falls, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

She was born April 16, 1934, to Martin and Marian (Steffen) Heggestad in Starbuck, MN. Until she was six years old, she lived with her family in Cyrus. In 1941 they moved to Lowry, MN where she attended grade school and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1952.

Lorraine attended Fergus Falls Teacher Training, Fergus Falls Community College, and Moorhead State University. She taught in rural schools in Otter Tail and Douglas counties and was employed by the State of Minnesota at the Regional Treatment Center, teaching handicapped individuals for 28 years, retiring in 1997.

On June 9, 1957, Lorraine was united in marriage to Gerald Drews at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry, by Pastor H. Norman Schey. They were married almost 67 years and lived for 40 years on their farm in Dane Prairie Township and the rest in Fergus Falls. She was a member of Trinity and Faith Lutheran Churches. She taught Sunday School, Wednesday School, and was active in LWML. For all of her life she was sustained by her faith in Christ. A great joy in her life came from her devoted and loving husband, Gerry, her two sons and their spouses, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gerry; her parents, Martin and Marian Heggestad, and brothers, Merlin (Karen) Heggestad and Dr. Harold Heggestad. Lorraine is survived by her sons, Clayton (Kim Hansen) Drews of Elbow Lake and Jonathan (Julie Melby) Drews of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Ryen (Heidi Peterson) Drews, Anna (Travis) Flerchinger, Christian (Angelica Erickson) Drews, and Jeremiah (JJ) Drews; great-grandchildren, Abigail Drews and Liam, Aria, Caleb, and Lily Ann Flerchinger, and David Drews; sister-in-law, Barbara Heggestad; brother-in-law, Gordon Tomhave, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN.

Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Trinity-Faith Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
