Lois Jean Helm

Lois Helm, 82, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, March 16, 2026 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Lois Jean Helm was born December 17, 1943 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to John and Agnes (Hope) Helm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a graduate of Fergus Falls High School.

Loie adored children and provided day care for many years, beginning with living with her sister's family in Moorhead for two years to care for her young niece, Kirsten. Following that she cared for the children of several families in Fergus Falls. She felt she had the most rewarding career, caring for kids from babies to teenagers. Loie spent her childhood summers at the family cottage on Deer Lake. She continued to enjoy summer days there with family, laying in the sun, playing Bingo with the big family gatherings on the 4th of July, boat rides or just sitting on the dock with her feet in the lake. She also cheered for the MN Twins Baseball on TV year after year. Regardless of the season, you could find Loie taking walks outside along the streets of Fergus Falls. In 2016 she moved to the Mill Street Residences she where lived happily for nine years.

Loie was a great aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, always wanting to hear about their lives and families.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Agnes Helm.

Lois is survived by her sister, Arlys Ohe of Moorhead, brother, Duane Helm of Bloomington, and brother, Roger (Lois) Helm of Maple Grove, many nieces and nephews and their families.

A private Memorial Service will be held on March 28, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Interment to be held in the spring at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls.
