Joyce Ann Uhlig

Joyce Ann (Stender) Uhlig, 94 years 2 days, passed away peacefully at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Joyce was born March 11, 1932, to Charles and Mathilda (Trick) Stender of Dent, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Dora Church.

At age 17 Joyce and her family relocated to the Elizabeth area, this is where she met her future husband.

Joyce married Lyle Uhlig on July 5, 1952, at St. John Lutheran Parsonage in Elizabeth. Joyce was active with the ladies' aid, bible study groups and cleaning the church.

In 1960 Lyle and Joyce moved to their forever farmstead.

In earlier years, Joyce was the cook at the country school until 1970 when country schools consolidated. Students still talk about Joyce's chili! Joyce then went to work at the Holiday Inn for twenty plus years, only to retire and back for another year!

Joyce was always busy at home with her chickens, gardening, flower gardens and daily farm chores. Joyce also had a knack for baking, especially her chocolate cookies, ask all the grandkids!

In 2011 when Lyle passed away, Joyce sold their farm of 51 years and moved into an apartment with 2 bathrooms!!

January 19, 2024, Joyce moved to PioneerCare. She was very happy there and made many friends.

Joyce is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; son, Steven; grandson, Dustin Hart; brothers, Charles (Helen), Kenny (Diana), Clem (Betty) and Lloyd; sisters, Glayds (Kenneth) Eberling, Charlotte Johnson, Lila (Victor) Rosenow, Margaret (Glen) Laugen, Karolyn (Arnie) Nord and Violet; brothers-in-law, Alvin (Judy) Uhlig and Wallace Uhlig.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Kirby) Norman and Connie (Todd) King; grandchildren, Kyle and Cody (Pam) Norman; great-grandchildren, Tahren (Breck) Petersen, Paige and Brayden Norman, Dustin CarLyle, Dezal and Delta Rust and their father, Darrick Rust; sister, Betty (Jerome) Haldorson; special family member, Paul (Kathy) Kohl (Dustin's heart recipient); and many nieces and nephews.

Per Joyce's wishes memorials preferred to St. John Cemetery Fund.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service.

Interment: St John Cemetery, Elizabeth, MN
