John Kvam

January 23, 1932 — May 31, 2025

John Kvam, 93, of Fergus Falls, died May 31, 2025, at Park Gardens Senior Living in Fergus Falls.

John Allen Kvam was born January 23, 1932, in Weldon, MT. The oldest of three boys born to Moses and Elizabeth Kvam. Growing up everyone called him Allen because his uncle was also named John. His mother died when John was very young leaving Moses to raise the three boys himself. Growing up in the Depression, it was said that the boys had to raid their Piggy Bank in the fall to buy pencils and paper for school.

John grew up on Little Long Lake just east of Wee Town on the family farm. He was an avid fisherman, loving both summer and ice fishing. At a young age, he and his brothers would build ski jumps to see who could fly the farthest that's why the ski jumps at the Olympics was a favorite thing to watch. He loved to deer hunt on Barb and Duane Seifert's property near Pelican Rapids. He was known as "Dead Shot John" once claiming to have shot two deer with one bullet. He remained friends with the Seiferts 'till his dying day.

John joined the Air Force in 1951. It was then that they told him he would be called his given name, John - not Allen which he was used to.

In 1962, John and his brother Richard, along with brother-in-law, David Bauman, stared BK Milk Hauling. John later sold his shares to his brother and went to work for Mid-America Dairy in Fergus Falls. He made a career there until retirement in the mid 90's. Afterwards he still drove beet trucks to continue helping local farmers.

John loved to dance. It was an every Friday night event at the V.F.W. That's where he started to dance with a lady named June Hermann. They were married in 1990 and danced together for many, many following years. Another of his favorite hobbies was making homemade wine out of everything. He shared generously with family and friends.

John was proud to be a Veteran. He helped with the Walk of Flags in Fergus Falls since its inception and continued to until he was 86 years old.

John is preceded in death by his mother and father, Elizabeth and Moses; brother, Richard and various in-laws.

He is survived by his wife, June; brother, Dave (Grace); sister-in-law, Dorene Kvam; adopted children and step-children along with many nieces and nephews, of which I am one. I am very proud to be a Kvam.

Your spirit and zest for life will live on through us all. Rest in peace, J.A.K.
