John "Johnny" Clausen

September 8, 1933 — February 15, 2026

John Frederick Clausen, age 92, a resident of the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls, Minnesota passed away on February 15, 2026. Known all his life as "Johnny", he was born in Hamburg, Minnesota on September 8, 1933, the son of Erdwig and Erna (Jaus) Clausen. He grew up on the family's farm in Friberg Township, rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Johnny attended the Seeba School through the 8th grade, choosing farming as his lifelong career. Farming was occupation that was his primary interest throughout his life.

On October 24, 1954, he married Joyce Marie Ekeberg at the Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, Minnesota. They made their home on the Clausen family farm.

Joyce and Johnny were charter members of the Messiah Lutheran Church in rural Underwood, where he enjoyed worship services, building projects, and serving various ways throughout the years at the Church.

Johnny was also involved on Township Boards, as well as the Underwood Lions Club and serving in the community.

Since he enjoyed working the land so much, he also enjoyed helping Joyce with gardening projects including raspberries, apple trees, conservational planting of trees and sharing sweet corn bounty with family and friends. Johnny and Joyce generously shared their garden produce often. They enjoyed spending time with extended family picnics, birthdays, holidays and many a "good game of pinochle."

Johnny was loved as a son, husband, and brother as well as being "Uncle Johnny" to many nieces, nephews and their families. His neighborhood friends were like family to him, and he enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Joyce of nearly 65 years; his parents, Erdwig and Erna Clausen; his in-laws, Edgar and Leola Ekeberg; his sisters, Wilma Johnson and Elaine Avila; sister-in-law, Alice Anderson, and brothers-in-law, Earl Johnson, Harvey Moen, Soren Kugler, and Russell Anderson.

John is survived by his sisters, Mavis Kugler and Shirley Moen, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Blessed be the memory of John Frederick Clausen.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Pastor Mike Natale and the congregation of Messiah Lutheran Church for their special care to both Joyce and Johnny over the years. We wish to thank all of the staff at the Pioneer Care for the many ways they cared for and encouraged Johnny, and for his friends also in Autumn Lakes and Birch lakes neighborhoods. Thank you also to the staff of Vivie Hospice for their excellent care for Johnny and his family as well in recent weeks.
