Janice Johansen

Janice Johansen, 90, of Underwood, died Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

She was born October 21, 1934, to Emil and Bernice (Orndorff) Fenske in Fergus Falls. She attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.

On June 7, 1952, Janice married Vernon Johansen at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She was a loving wife and mother and helped on the family farm. She ran a boat rental business on Norway Lake in Underwood.

Janice was a lifetime member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood serving in various activities such as Circle. She enjoyed volunteering her time at church.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, baking, especially making homemade bread, caramel rolls and lefse. She enjoyed hosting 4th of July fish fries on Norway Lake. She was an animal lover and her pets were very important to her. She was a quiet mannered lady who was devoted to her family. Janice and Vernon were snowbirds for 35 years at McAllen Mobile Park in McAllen, TX. They also enjoyed many summers at Otter Tail Lake and trips to Jamaica and Hawaii.

She was proceeded by her parents; husband Vernon; brother, Roger Fenske; sister, Nancy Erickson; sons-in-law, Eugene Pederson and Ken Rasmussen; sister-in-law, Barbara Fenske; brothers-in-law, Norman Erickson and Dennis Moe.

Janice is survived by her children, Patsy Rasmussen of Fergus Falls, Judy (Mark) Grefsrud of Pelican Rapids and their children and grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Jons and Tessa and Callen of Buffalo, WY and Travis (Cheri) Grefsrud and Shaun and Lia Grefsrud of Pelican Rapids, Pam Pederson of Underwood and her children and grandchildren, Erica (Chris) Wolden and Bristol, Blake, Brooks, and Beckett of Underwood and Daniel (Lisa) Pederson and Aleigha of Underwood, Jill (Lee) Bakken of Underwood and their children and grandchildren, Brody (Brooke Tayer) Bakken of Fergus Falls and Kale (Abby Theede) Bakken and their children Jett and Rocky of Fergus Falls, Melissa (John) Alsgaard of Underwood and their children and grandchildren, Miranda (Chad) LeRoy and Casen, Trey, and Zaden of Underwood and Dustin Alsgaard of Underwood, Teresa (Brian) Quaal of St. Stephen and their children and grandchildren, Tayler (John) Langseth and their children Layton and one on the way in September 2025 of Breckenridge and Samantha (Tanner Andvik) Quaal of Fargo, Michael (Michelle) Johansen and their children, Natalie, Kate, and Zachary of Underwood; sibling, Sharon Moe of Eau Clair, WI; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.
