Gordon Bakken

Gordon Earl Bakken, 89, died July 1st, 2025 at the MN Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN.

Gordy was born September 18, 1935 to Clifford and Anna (Sunblad) Bakken in the "Erhard Hills", Erhard MN. Gordy attended Underwood School. Gordy was married to Geraldine Boek on August 5th, 1961. Together they raised their three children at their home on Heilberger Lake Erhard, MN until they divorced in 1993.

Gordy joined the Air Force May 20, 1954 and was a Ground Radio operator, he was stationed in Japan and served during the Korean Conflict. Gordy was honorably discharged November 15, 1957.

He was an electrical installer and over his career worked for Western Electric, AT&T and Tel-Tech phone companies.

Gordy loved hunting, fishing and vegetable gardening. He also loved to attend his children & grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his children: Gaylon (Julie) Bakken Fergus Falls, MN, Gaylene (Ryan) Smith Erhard, MN, and Gaydine (Fred) Spiess Escondido, CA; grandchildren: Ben (Tara) Bakken, Phillip (Samantha) Bakken, Illana (Jake) Schmid, Tanner Schmitz, Addisyn Smith, Hailey Spiess, and Gavin Spiess; great-grandchildren: Avery Bakken, Brantley Bakken, Aubrey Bakken, Brynn Bakken, Aivlee Schmid, Vince Schmid and Sylvie Schmid; sister: Elaine Knutson Battle Lake, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his girlfriend of 21 years, Leona Smith.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford and Annie Bakken and his sister, Marie Stensrude.

A public graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2025 at Silent Vale Cemetery, rural Underwood, MN.
