Evelyn Soma

Evelyn Soma Evelyn O. Soma, 90, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at her home in Loudon, Tennesee. She was born April 1, 1917, in Kloten, North Dakota, the daughter of Andrew and Louise (Knutson) Lykken. She was baptized and confirmed in Valley Grove Lutheran Church in Kloten. She graduated from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis in 1941. On April 1, 1942, she married Sanford Soma in Spokane, Washington. She served with her husband, a Lutheran pastor, at churches in Cooperstown, North Dakota, Osakis, Minnesota, Princeton, New Jersey, Clearbrook, Minnesota, and Rake, Iowa. In 1972 she graduated from Bemidji Technical School with a LPN Degree. She worked in the field of nursing for ten years. They retired to Fergus Falls in 1984. She moved to Florida in 2002, and most recently to Loudon, Tennessee, to live with her family, Marlene and Gary. Evelyn was a quilter, and was also known for her baking skills. She has always enjoyed traveling with her family and recently became an avid reader. She was a hospitable person with a firm faith in God and a love of family. Evelyn was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where she belonged to the church quilting group. Preceding her in death were her husband, Sanford; three brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include her four daughters: Marlene (Dr. Gary) Klukken of Loudon, TN, Frohne (Philip) Erickson of Columbus, OH, Beverly (James) Hanson of Cape Coral, FL, and Joy (Rev. Paul) Johansen of Williston, ND; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil (Helen) Lykken of Albert Lea, MN; and two sisters: Irene Meyers of Portland, OR, and Marna Tweed of Fargo, ND.
