Darrel Roger Weers was born on November 28, 1943, to Oscar and Mildred Weers in Morris, MN. He was the third of four children, alongside his siblings Arlene, George, and Harlan.
After graduating high school in 1961, Darrel worked on the family farm and drove a school bus for two years. He then served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1964 to 1968, attending Sonar and Oceanographic schools and earning several commendations. He was a proud member of the American Legion for over 50 years.
In 1966, he married his first wife Nancy, with whom he had a daughter, Tracy Puanani born in 1966. In 1975, Darrel married Arlene Vivian Kollar, and their son, Anthony Jon Weers, was born in 1976. They later established their home along the Otter Tail River in Fergus Falls, MN. Arlene passed in 1987 after a battle with leukemia.
Darrel began a 41-year career with the Otter Tail Power Company in 1968, working there until his retirement as a supervisor in load data acquisition in 2009.
In 1988, Darrel married Becky Reinders of Fergus Falls.
While teaching a high school Sunday School class, Darrel wrote a presentation about the life of Christ through the eyes of the Apostle Peter. Darrel and Becky traveled to multiple states to share this presentation with various congregations. His greeting to everyone was "Jesus is alive," which made a positive impact on many people he witnessed to over the years.
Darrel and Becky loved the dogs they rescued from the local Humane Society. One of the dogs, named Sarge, became Darrel's service dog.
Darrel is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mildred Weers and brother, Harlan Weers.
