Carol Marie Hanson

Carol Marie Hanson, 71, of Dalton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Carol Marie Hanson was born November 5, 1954 to Selvin O. and Margaret Richter. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. She became a member of the First Church of the Nazarene on May 1, 2013 and on August 2, 2024 she was baptized again by water immersion by Pastor Josh Richter in South Turtle Lake.

Carol graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1973. On November 23, 1974 she married Mark A. Hanson in Fergus Falls. They were married for 38 years until Mark's passing in 2012. Carol worked at Kmart, Pamida and for over 20 years at the bank in Dalton. She also did daycare for a wonderful little girl, Grace Maanum for a few years. Carol was very involved in church including attending numerous bible study groups, counting offering and volunteering for Ruby's Pantry.

One of Carol's greatest joys and support in her life was her Lord, Jesus Christ. Carol was the best mom and Grandma. She loved spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren, Braden and Ava, the greatest joys in her life. Carol loved attending all their activities, whether it was hockey, dance, gymnastics, track, figure skating, concerts, school and church activities. She also loved living in the country, mowing her big yard, gardening and sharing her flowers and garden produce with friends and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents Selvin O. and Margaret Richter; husband Mark Hanson; brother David Richter; father-in-law Arlo Hanson; sister-in-law Susan Olson; brother-in-law Lon Hanson; nephew Matthew VanWatermulen; and goddaughter Cynthia Kubitz.

Carol is survived by her children Stephanie (Jay) Lunde and Michael (Carmen) Hanson; grandchildren Braden and Ava Lunde; a very special friend Charlie Westfall; brother Selvin (Shirley) Richter; mother-in-law LeVonne Hanson; sisters-in-law Barb Richter, Susan Hanson, Myrna (Jim) VanWatermulen and Elizabeth (Chad) Nelson; brother-in-law John Olson and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to The Naz, Arise Church in Aberdeen, SD or a charity of your choice.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at The Naz Church in Fergus Falls with a visitation two hours prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
