Virginia Ecker Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Virginia M. Ecker, 91, of Fergus Falls, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls. She was born March 31, 1927, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Leonard & Dorothy (Harris) Johnson. She was raised on a farm near Wall Lake, the homestead of her maternal grandparents, Bertrum & Eleanor Harris, and attended country school and Fergus Falls High School. During her younger adult life, she worked in clothing retail, followed by many years at the counters at Service Food Market. On June 13, 1948, she and James A. Ecker were married at the Swan Lake Lutheran Church, and they made their home in Fergus Falls. Since 1963, Jim, Virginia, and their family and friends have enjoyed summers at their cabin on Deer Lake. Virginia was a league bowler and in later years, golfing became her sport of interest. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was also active with the Fergus Falls Elks, VFW Post 612, Fergus Falls Historical Society, and Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Odin A. Halsness, and her husband, Jim. Over the years Jim and Virginia opened their home to numerous children, including Barb (Winslow) Hovland and Susan (Winslow) Buchholz. Susan passed away in 1996. She is survived by her children: Greg (Barb) Ecker, Judy (Bruce) Glorvigen, and Sue (Tim) Pardy, all of Fergus Falls; three grandchildren: Eric (Libby) Ecker, Jesse (Danielle) Glorvigen, and Jenny (Travis) Denney; six great-grandchildren: Ella Ecker, Eli Ecker, Brayden Glorvigen, Brooklyn Glorvigen, Ruby Denney, and Mia Denney; sisters/brothers-in-law: Phil Ecker, Fergus Falls, Ellen (Erwin) Johnson, Fergus Falls, and Liz Wiese, Elizabeth. She is also survived by Barb Hovland and her son, Joe (Teanna) Molter, and their children, Cody, Brady, and Sydnie, and Susan’s two sons, Chad and Matthew Buchholz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
