Ruth Elizabeth (Goetzinger) Lange, 104, died Sunday, September 23, 2018, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
She was born October 20, 1913, to William H. and Elizabeth J. Goetzinger in Elbow Lake, MN. She was baptized, confirmed and grew up in Elbow Lake. After graduating from Elbow Lake High School, Ruth attended Macalester College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
After graduation, Ruth returned to Elbow Lake where she taught Business at the high school. It was there she met Herbert Lange, a fellow teacher, fell in love and they were married on June 12, 1940. The following year was spent in Grand Forks, ND where Herbert earned a Masters Degree in mathematics and Ruth her Library Science Degree. Upon graduation, they moved to Faribault, MN, where both took jobs at Shattuck Military Academy, Herbert was a math teacher and coached basketball and Ruth was the librarian.
In 1946, they moved to Clara City, MN where they built and operated the Star Theater for the next 25 years. Upon retirement, they spent 27 years living at Ten Mile Lake during the summer months and in Mesa, AZ during the winter months. Their later years were spent living at Sheridan House in Fergus Falls with Ruth spending the past years at PioneerCare.
She loved to spend time with family and friends, read, work crossword puzzles, cook, entertain and travel.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Bob) Goldenstein of Ten Mile Lake; a son, Richard (Karla) Lange of Elk River, MN; granddaughter, Gara Goldenstein of Rush City, MN; granddaughter, Beth Lange of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Larry (Beth) Goetzinger of Ten Mile Lake; and niece, Nancy (Bill) Henke of Detroit Lakes, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 66 years, Herbert R. Lange; two grandsons, Gregg Goldenstein and Christopher Lange; her brother, William Goetzinger and her sisters-in-law, Ruby Goetzinger, Elsie Crawford, Gertrude Lange and Margaret Lange.
Memorials may be directed to PioneerCare Foundation, LB Homes Hospice or donors choice.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at PioneerCare
Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, at PioneerCare Chapel, Fergus Falls
