Robert Wallington, 84, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Robert Barry Wallington was born December 20, 1935, in Oshkosh, WI to Frank and LaVilla (NuBach) Wallington. He attended Hawthorne Grade School in Rochester, MN. He graduated in 1953 from Rochester Senior High, continuing his education at community college studying business for two years.
On October 25, 1959, he married Beverly Sue Lyke at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Bob served in the US Navy from 1953 to 1959, serving towards the end of the Korean War. He was a member of several ships’ tours of duty. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
After returning from six years of service with the Navy, he served as a Nesners medic and was attached to the Marine Corps. He was then hired by Nesners in the manager training program. He worked for two years and left the program to work for the State Hospital Psych Tech program in Rochester. He eventually was promoted to manager of central supply. He was employed for 17 years for the State Hospital in Rochester. In October of 1976, he moved his family to Fergus Falls. He and his family bought a home in the country, where they lived until ill-health struck, moving and living in town until his death.
Bob loved to hunt and fish, he and his wife Bev fished together for 50 years. He also taught his five sons and three daughters how to fish. He coached Little League baseball with his sons, Dan and Dean, leading to a championship title while they were in Rochester in 1967.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both maternal and paternal grandparents; sister, Sandra and Glenn Ott of Ohio; father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Lenna Jo Lyke; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ruth Lyke; son, Donald Krukow; two nieces, and a nephew.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Dan (Kim) Krukow, Dean (Chris) Krukow, Sharon (Jeff) Carr, Sue (Jan) Wallington, Robert (Diane) Wallington, Sandra (Mike) Puhlman, and Bill (Erin) Wallington; daughter-in-law, Mary Krukow; 17 grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Ben, Laura, Jennifer, Jason, Justin, Jared, Travis, Joe, Tara, Ryan, Heather, Jake, Brooke, David and Jordan; 12 great-grandchildren, Waylon, Lily, Sarah, Emma, Cait, Maddie, Shelby, Kailey, Abbey, Braeden, Aubree, and Trey; one great-great grandchild, Ava Rose, and one brother, Richard.
All of his family loved him very much and will dearly miss him.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
