Robert Roger Schimming

Robert Roger Schimming, age 64, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at home with his family by his side.
Bob was born on December 22, 1951, to Roger and Betty (Portiss) Schimming in Enderlin, ND. He attended school in Enderlin, until his family moved to Valley City for his senior year, graduating in 1970. In July of 1970, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and was always proud to have served his country. He served on an aircraft carrier, the USS Ticonderoga, as a signalman.
On June 24, 1972, Bob was united in marriage to Karen Anderson in Valley City. Together they had two girls, Melissa and Sarah. Bob was a part time firefighter in Valley City for nearly fifteen years. He served on the ladder truck and rescue squad, as well as being an EMT instructor trainer.
Among other jobs, Bob worked in maintenance at Mercy Hospital, as Service Manager at Medima Thompson Chevrolet, and for the US Corps of Engineers at Ashtabula Dam. He was later transferred to Orwell Dam in Fergus Falls, where he ended his career in December of 2015, after thirty-three years.
Bob’s greatest love was his family, especially his seven grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, making lamps and other artistic projects. Bob was known to entertain with a long repertoire of jokes and songs. “Gloria”, “House of the Rising Sun”, and “It’s A Wonderful World”, were a few of his favorites. He was a friend to all he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Betty Schimming; his daughter, Melissa Grammont; and a brother-in-law, Bruce Pfaff.
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife of forty-three years, Karen Schimming of Fergus Falls; his daughter, Sarah (Wayne) Goerdt of Campbell; seven grandchildren, Calvin and Dylan Grammont, Dylan and Hannah Goerdt, and Taylor, Lilli and Jakob Ness; and his sister, Shirley Pfaff of Fargo and Carol (Mark) Klein of Valley City.
