Kirsten Joy Moline Laney

September 3, 1968 — March 15, 2017

Kirsten Joy (Moline) Laney, 48, a resident of rural Underwood, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, as a result of an accident while riding her horse near her Ranch home.

She was born on September 3, 1968, to James and Arlyne (Hanson) Moline in Pasadena, CA. As a child, the family moved to Fergus Falls where she attended Fergus Falls Public Schools and Hillcrest Academy. She then moved with her family to Bend, OR, and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1987. After returning to the Fergus Falls area, Kirsten received a degree in Computer Science from NDSCS.

On August 10, 1991, at Bethel Church in Fergus Falls, she married Kenneth Laney, her high school soul mate and love of her life. In 1996 she welcomed her son Kolton Reid and in 2000 her second son, Kade Carter.

Her education and work ethic brought her into management in telemarketing and on to district manager for Movie Gallery. Kirsten later became an employee of Ottertail Power. After several years there, she experienced a life changing health crisis which redirected her career path. During her recovery, she began to follow her passion, pursue her dream as influenced by her connection to Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch, Bend, OR. In pursuit of her dream, the family moved southeast of Underwood to establish Oakdale Korral Rescue Ranch, to pair rescued horses with children.

When Kirsten was in high school she enjoyed basketball, choir and band. She always enjoyed camping and traveling with her family as well as following her boys school and sports activities. She loved nature and animals and was compassionate in helping others. She recently found enjoyment in the Art & Sip events.

Kirsten was active in the Lakes Area Vineyard Church of Detroit Lakes where she loved to serve in many capacities, including children’s ministry and small group meetings. She was tenacious, bold and passionate for Jesus.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, James and Charlotte Moline and Peter and Mildred Hanson; and an infant brother.

Survivors include her husband, Ken and their two sons, Kolton and Kade, all of Underwood; her parents, Jim and Arlyne Moline of Prineville, OR; three sisters, Kaaren (Joe) Provence of Boise, ID, Kim (Chris) Fournier of Bend, OR, and Kari (Jason) Clark of Prineville, OR. Also surviving are Ken’s parents, Mary and Walter Laney of Fergus Falls; his sister, Cheryl (Mike) Fitzgerald, of Pelican Rapids; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
