Jerry Ott

Jerry Alan Ott, 45, of rural Elizabeth, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at his residence after a courageous battle with ALS. He was born August 23, 1966, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Larry and Carolyn (Vandermeer) Ott. He attended grade school in Battle Lake, and then high school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1984. He completed the Auto Body program at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, graduating in 1986. During high school and college he worked at the North Union Texaco station in Fergus Falls. On September 28, 1991 he married Dawn Kay Lemke at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. They made their home in rural Elizabeth. He was employed with Shoremaster for 25 years. He was a former volunteer fire fighter with the Elizabeth Fire Department, and was a member Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth and Ducks Unlimited. Time spent outdoors ice fishing, trapping, deer hunting, and camping were some of his favorite activities. He also enjoyed following NASCAR where he was a Dale Earnhardt fan, and collecting model trains and Coleman lanterns. Preceding him in death were his mother, Carolyn Friedrich in January of 2009, his grandparents, and his in-laws, Byron Lemke in 2008, and Avis Lemke in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Ott of Elizabeth, his children: Ryan Ott, Tyler Ott, and Sydney Ott, all of Elizabeth; his dad, Larry (Sally) Ott of Fergus Falls; his siblings: Jolene (Kevin) Lubitz of Perham, James (Kari) Ott of Erhard, and Jason (Mindy) Ott of Barnesville; his stepfather, Elwyn Friedrich of Fergus Falls; his step-siblings: Jeff (Linda) Friedrich of Stillwater, Bruce (Jane) Friedrich of Forest Lake, Greg (Colleen) Friedrich of Long Prairie, Glenn (Kim) Friedrich of Randall, and Rebecca Friedrich of Inver Grove Heights; two half brothers: Christopher (Tanya) Ott and Nicholas (Heather) Ott, all of Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law: Dean Lemke and Dan (Julie) Lemke all of Elizabeth; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a 4 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 1 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Clergy: Reverend Stan Satre Interment: Augustana Lutheran Cemetery in Elizabeth, Minnesota Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
