Franklin Carl Jacobs

December 1, 1938 — May 22, 2018

Franklin Carl Jacobs, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away at the age of 79 at home on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, surrounded by loving family.

Frank was born December 1, 1938, with a wrench in his hand to Martin Carl and Regina Elizabeth Jacobs on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Frank was a graduate of Roosevelt Senior High and attended Dunwoody Institute.

At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army National Guard and later the United States Army Reserves. Frank was a mechanical genius and could fix anything. He loved horses; rode, trained and boarded them.

On November 1, 1962, Frank married Judith K. Pretts. He farmed for 24 years then worked for 37 years at the Water Purification Plant lab for the City of Fergus Falls. He drove semi for Menards and the milk truck for the Mid Am Dairy in Fergus Falls. Frank loved working for Sherman Ferguson well drilling. He worked for the Fergus Theater running projectors and managed the Drive-In Theater and Country Manor Trailer Court. He loved working for his nephew Mark Jacobs in the North Country Lawn business and his family for 30 years.

Frank loved people and every client they worked for were very important to him. He had dyslexia, and after high school, teachers Grace Halcrow and Darwin Hanson spent a summer teaching him to read. This resulted in Frank becoming an avid reader of history and had a photographic memory of anything he read. He also had his own library.

Frank loved hiking mountains and valleys, snowmobiling in Grand Lake, Colorado, spending time cross-country skiing, and teaching skiing in the military. He couldn't get enough of hunting and fishing or the sunsets of the ocean. Frank was an artist of canvas or chainsaw. He loved biking with his family through the state parks between Fergus Falls and Texas and spending many years at Glendalough State Park and Maplewood State Park.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Martin and Regina Jacobs; sister, Angeline (Art) Nathan Weidner.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judith Jacobs; daughters, Bethany Catherine, Suzanne Regina (Roger); sons, Todd (Chip) Bernie, Jeffrey Martin; grandchildren, Alexus Josephine Jacobs, Alex Sigfrid J, Kayla (Andy) Gentz-J; great-grandchildren, Keagan Niessen, Jasmine Niessen, Ava Gentz, Maddie Gentz; Mariah Sierra Sigfrid, Blade Nathan Sigfrid; sister, Marlene Hanson; Steve Malme, Angela Malme, Rev.
