Carl "Kelly" Samuelson

Carl “Kelly” Samuelson, 86, of Underwood, died peacefully, on November 26, 2021, at his home.
Carl was born on January 14, 1935, to Lennerd and Josephine (Simonson) in Fergus Falls, one of nine children. He grew up in Dalton and attended country school. In February 1958, Kelly entered the United States Army, serving overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1960.
On June 1, 1958, Kelly married Joyce Hasse at Christ Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. Early on the couple was employed by farmers. The couple then began carpentry work, building and remodeling homes. They returned to farming when they purchased a home in rural Battle Lake.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton and served on several church boards. He was also a member of the N.F.O and the Saddle Club.
Kelly enjoyed horseback riding, spending time with his children and grandchildren, loved to watch his grandchildren’s sporting events, and playing cards (especially cribbage with his Dalton crew).
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Ryan Johnson; six brothers, Willmar (Betty), Milo (Thelma), Roy (Jean) Glen (Marlys), Dennis (Norma) and Stubby (Mardell); sister, Lela (Erving) Bothun; and sister-in-law, Darlene Samuelson.
Kelly is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce of Underwood; four daughters, Natalie (Kraig) Johnson of St. Peter, Teresa (Terry) Ohren of Ashby, Julie (Daniel) Walvatne of Dalton and Karla (Vincent) Mickelson of Elbow Lake; 14 grandchildren, Kourtney, Parker, Trent, Tony, Tom, Chris, Matthew, Blake, Kelly, Danielle, Ashley, Davis, Kurtis and Riley; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Samuelson of Parkers Prairie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Our Savior's Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton, MN.
Clergy: Reverend Paul Snyder and Wes Moir
Burial: St. Olaf Cemetery, Dalton, MN
