Calvin "Cal" Preston
November 4, 1924 — August 21, 2017
Calvin Swan Preston, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday August 21, 2017, at his home on Jewett Lake surrounded by his children.
He was born on November 4th, 1924 in Elizabeth Township to Edward Blaine and Pearl May (Swan) Preston. He was an only child. Cal was a proud graduate of the 1942 Fergus Falls High School and recently attended his 75th class reunion.
On February 26, 1949, he married Geraldine “Gerry” Bergquist at the Federated Church in Fergus Falls and resided at the Jewett Lake homestead. He was an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth and later became a member of the Bethel Lutheran church where he enjoyed the life ministries group.
He enjoyed working on construction projects and serving in the local school, township and church boards along with being involved in Life Ministries and the Jewett Lake Association. His true passion of farming, spending time with family, and his commitment to Christ was evident throughout his life.
His other hobbies included lake activities, hunting, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling and socializing with friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling.
His home was always open to anyone in need, as Cal and Gerry were foster parents for 10 years to 16 children. Together they raised 5 children of their own and one adopted daughter.
He always worked hard and was willing to help others in times of need. He took time to appreciate life’s blessings along the way and was faithful to thank the Lord at the end of each day.
He was a true servant of Christ, leaving his “fingerprint” on many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Gerry in 2013.
Survivors include his four sons and two daughters, Gary (Elaine) of Fergus Falls, Vince (Pam) of Frederick, CO, Randy (Wendy) of Rochester, MN, Wayne (DeAnn) of Fergus Falls, Lisa Langston of Fergus Falls, and Aimee Preston of Fergus Falls; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Olson Funeral Home, with a public
prayer service at 6:30, and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
