Archie R. Atkinson

Archie R. Atkinson, 93, died Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Monticello Care Center in Monticello, MN.
Archie was born on November 11, 1925, the son of Russell and Charlotte (Knudson) Atkinson. He was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Archie graduated from Washington High School of Fergus Falls, he then attended two years at the Business College in Minneapolis, MN.
In September 1943, Archie volunteered to join the US Navy. He served in Asiatic/Pacific Theater aboard the USS Bunker Hill in 26 major campaigns. On May 11, 1945, the Bunker Hill was hit by an enemy attack; the ship was retired from combat duty and was used as troop transport. Archie left the Navy to pursue a career with Augsburg Publishing in Minneapolis. After 35 years he retired as Sales Manager.
Archie is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Atkinson; nieces; nephews; many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Duane.
