Allen Duane Larson

Allen Duane Larson, age 73, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Allen was born on November 10, 1942, the son of Arthur A. and Nellie (Mark) Larson in Fergus Falls. Allen attended country school in District #20 and graduated from Underwood High School in 1960. After graduation, Allen enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era and served from 1964 to 1968. He was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, FL, and New Ulm, Germany.

On July 25, 1964, Allen was united in marriage to Susan Albjerg in Underwood. In March of 1968, he went to work for Otter Tail Power as a lineman. Over the years, Allen continued with Otter Tail Power working in Karlstad, Red Lake Falls and Hallock. He went on long-term disability in 1999 and retired in 2008. In 2004, the couple moved to Fergus Falls.

Allen was chairman of the Karlstad School Board, the Karlstad city council, church treasurer for First Lutheran Church in Karlstad and a member of the Karlstad Lions. After moving to Fergus Falls, he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods, camping and visiting with friends at the Warroad Campground. He also enjoyed deer hunting, especially staying at the hunting shack, ice fishing, guys’ retreats of trout fishing in Canada, the computer, and playing cards. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Nellie Larson; and a brother-in-law, John Sailer.

Allen is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Susan Larson of Fergus Falls; his children, Randy (Lori) Larson and Melissa Larson all of Fergus Falls; his grandchildren, Bryce and Brooke Burrill and Logan Larson; siblings, Carol Sailer, Judy (Greg) Evenson, Neal (Kay) Larson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the Olson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Military Participation: Fergus Falls VFW Post #612 and American Legion Post #30
Interment: Sverdrup Lutheran Cemetery in rural Underwood.
