Full History

Olson Funeral Home was established in the early 1900s by Lars Olson and Conrad Skalman, his son-in- law, in Underwood, MN. Lars was joined by his son, Guy Olson, in 1918. The business relocated to Pelican Rapids, then later to Fergus Falls. Guy was joined in the business by his son, Robert Olson, in 1950. Guy S. Olson II joined the family firm in 1978. On January 9, 1995, Olson Funeral Home moved into a newly built facility, where it is presently located. In 1997, Olson Funeral Home acquired Grina Funeral Home in Rothsay, MN. In 2009, the Olson family donated the Grina Funeral Home property to the New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay, enabling the church to move forward with building a new facility on that site.

An addition to Olson Funeral Home took place in the fall of 2014, including a new chapel and reception area. The funeral home also added the first licensed crematory in Otter Tail County. In 2020, Robert S. Olson II became a partner in the family firm with his father, Guy S. Olson II. The team at Olson Funeral & Cremation is dedicated to serving Fergus Falls and the surrounding area for years to come.
