Stanley J. Fuxa

November 22, 1926 — December 1, 2017

Stanley J. Fuxa, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully Friday, December 1, 2017 at his home under the care of Knute-Nelson Hospice.

Stanley was born on November 22, 1926 in his family farm house near Bison, Oklahoma. He was the son of Joseph and Anna (Vculek) Fuxa. He attended Green Valley Elementary School, a one room school house in the country with 14 students. He graduated from high school in Waukomis, Oklahoma in 1944. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 and received training at Jos T. Robinson near Little Rock, Arkansas. He then served in the European Theater of WWII until 1947. After the war, Stanley was transferred to the Ordinance where he supervised a PX in Nuremberg, Germany. After being discharged from the Army he returned to Oklahoma where he farmed.

In 1953 he married the love of his life, Betty Vap, at Mother of Sorrows Church in Apache, OK. For their honeymoon they drove to Mexico City, Cuernavaca, Taxco and Acapulco, which was quite an adventure for a couple in 1953. After traveling with his brother, Emil to the Red River Valley, Stanley couldn’t get it out of his mind. In 1956, he moved his young family to a farm they bought east of Doran. In 1966 they moved to a farm west of Campbell where they lived and farmed until 1997 when they moved to Fergus Falls. They would spend the winters in Gold Canyon, AZ also traveling to Mazatlán and to a special place in the mountains in Alamos, Mexico.

Stanley and Betty enjoyed traveling to Eastern Europe and Czechoslovakia while it was still under communism. They returned several times to Czechoslovakia over the years to visit their very special friends. They enjoyed traveling the Czech countryside by car and finding new adventures and distant relatives. The family also enjoyed going on many vacations in their travel trailer across the United States.

Stanley was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and was also a member of the Catholic Workman, Fergus Falls V.F.W. and American Legion.

He was an avid reader, loved Old Time music, dancing, farming, driving around to see how the crops looked and driving back roads to see the countryside.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Brian; brother, Emil; sister, Emma, Marie and Agnes; three brothers-in-law, Joe Musil, George Semrad and Ernest Semrad.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Betty; sons, Max (Dawn), Neil, Nathan (Barbara), Joseph; daughter, Karen; daughter-in-law, Nadine, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Oklahoma and Kansas.

Memorials are preferred to Knute-Nelson Home Care and Hospice in Alexandria.
