Russell “Russ” L. Mitlyng, 65, a resident of Underwood, died Thursday, September 24, 2015, as a result of a heart attack, which caused a single vehicle accident.
Russell was born on February 17, 1950, in Clarkfield, MN, the son of Edgar and Evelyn (Johnson) Mitlyng. He grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School in 1969. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged.
On August 24, 1974, he married Dawn Jenson in Milan, MN. Together they had 3 children. While living in Jackson, MN, he attended Minnesota West Community and Technical College, where he studied to be an electrician. Over the years, Russ has become a master of many trades, but he spent the majority of his time as an electrician and independent contractor.
On August 3, 1996, he married Mary Kay (Ronning) Kollar at Phelps Mill.
He was a true outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Edgar Jr., Ken and Larry; a sister, Patricia; nephews, Rick Mitlyng and Joshua Kuphal; and fathers-in-law, Ken Jenson and DelRoy Ronning.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Mitlyng of Underwood; son, Chris (Allison) Mitlyng of Fergus Falls and their children, Ali, Isaac, Ethan and Adam; son, Ben (Sara) Mitlyng of Orono and their children, Charlotte, Will and Thomas; daughter, Amanda Mitlyng of Lake Park, MN and her son, Samuel; daughter, Stephanie (Blake) Kollar Townsend of Ft. Collins, CO, and their children, Zoey and Benton; daughter, Darcy Kollar of Avon, MN; brothers, Richard (Anita) Mitlyng of Rochester, MN, Jim (Carol) Mitlyng of St. Bonefacius, MN, Bob (Linda) Mitlyng of Austin, MN, and Bruce (Deb) Mitlyng of Marshall, MN. Also surviving is his beloved dog, Sadie, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11 to 1 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, MN.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls.

Military Participation: Fergus Falls V. F.W. Post 612 and American Legion Post 30.
