Russel A. McRoberts

Russel McRoberts, 81, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
He was born July 3, 1933, in Eau Galle, WI, the son of John B. and Margaret Idell (Hotter) McRoberts. He attended grade school in Eau Galle, WI and graduated high school in Eau Claire, WI.
Russel served two years in the United States Army as a supply sergeant.
On September 19, 1953, he married Darlene (Knowlton) McRoberts in Eau Claire, WI.
After Russel and Darlene were married he was employed for F.W. Woolworth which took them to Ottumwa IA, Milwaukee and Menomonie WI, Montevideo, St. Paul and finally Fergus Falls in 1963. He owned Our Own Hardware in Fergus Falls and was then District Manager for Ace Hardware for many years. Russel retired in 1997. Most recently he became a resident at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and wintering in Arizona. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Russel was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Rotary, Elks, and the Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becky; brothers, Elwood, Lenny and Chuck.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Darlene of Fergus Falls; his daughter, Debi (Steve) McRoberts of West St. Paul; son, Michael (Jami) McRoberts of Pickerel Lake, rural Richville; grandchildren, Myria (James) Kirkpatrick of St. Louis Park; Riley McRoberts of Battle Lake; great-grandchildren, Jackson Aune and Bennett and Cameron Kirkpatrick; two brothers, Ed (Avis) McRoberts of Eau Claire, WI, and Robert “Bob” (Sandy) McRoberts of Eau Claire, WI. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Visitation: one hour prior to service at the church.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls.
Clergy: Reverend Wes Gabel and Chaplain Jack Stanek
Military Participation: V.F.W. Post No. 612 and American Legion Post No. 30.
Burial: At a later date at Clearview Cemetery in Eau Galle, WI.
Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
