Randy Allen Huckeby

January 21, 1952 — October 11, 2016

Randy Allen Huckeby, 64, of Fergus Falls, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, after a battle with cancer.

Randy was born January 21, 1952, in Santa Monica, CA, to Robert Alston and Phyllis Leora (Tomlin) Huckeby. While still an infant, Randy and his family moved back to his parents’ hometown of Edgeley, ND.

He attended elementary school in Edgeley. His father died in 1961 and his mother later remarried Ralph Sears. The family moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he attended junior high school. The family moved to Glenwood where Randy attended high school, graduating from Glenwood Central High School in 1970. Randy attended the Law Enforcement program at Willmar State Junior College from 1970-1971.

Randy worked for Robert D. McLeod Inc. as a loader operator and later as a foreman. He worked as a security officer at the St. Cloud Hospital while taking classes at St. Cloud State College from 1973-1976.

He was employed as a police officer for the cities of Browns Valley and Wheaton from 1976-1979. While serving there he received a citation of honor from then Governor Rudy Perpich for his part in a cold water rescue of a family on Lake Traverse, after their boat had overturned.
While serving in Browns Valley, he met his future bride and love of his life, Bonnie Reinart. Randy and Bonnie were married on April 19, 1979, in Aberdeen, SD.

He was employed as a police officer for the city of Barnesville from 1979-1985 and then promoted to Chief of Police until he retired in 2002. Randy worked a variety of part-time jobs including selling Aflac insurance and working at Cenex in Barnesville. In 2004 he went back to work full-time in law enforcement as the Chief of Police in Browns Valley and retired again in 2009. In 2011, Randy and Bonnie moved to Fergus Falls where Randy continued his side business, Huck’s Knives and Collectibles, selling knives and fish decoys. Randy and Bonnie became members of Bethel Lutheran Church after moving to Fergus. Randy continued to work part-time in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff/bailiff for Wilkin County until the Spring of 2016.

Randy was a self-described simple man who loved riding motorcycles, playing guitar, wood working and ice fishing. He enjoyed taking long motorcycle trips and short local rides. He loved watching his kids grow up and spending time with his grandchildren.
