Margaret Greene Sanderson

Margaret Greene Sanderson, 92, of Fergus Falls, passed away September 20, 2014 at the Pioneer Suites in Fergus Falls.

Margaret was born June 18, 1922 in Orange, New Jersey to Jeremiah and Adeline (Litchfield) Greene. She grew up near Butler, New Jersey. After graduating from Butler high school she attended nurses training at Orange Memorial Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey.

During WWII Margaret served as a Navy nurse at Bainbridge Naval Center in Maryland. It was there she met David Sanderson. They were married on August 10, 1946 and moved to David’s home state of Minnesota. Together they lived in St. Paul, then briefly in Princeton, MN, before settling in Fergus Falls in 1951.

Margaret served as a dedicated board member and volunteer for many organizations in Fergus Falls. Friends of the Library, Lake Region Hospital Auxiliary and Our Lady of Victory Church are some to which she committed her time and energy.

Margaret was an active woman with many talents and interests. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, knitting, painting, gardening, travel and golf. She was a tremendous cook and hostess who loved entertaining friends in her home and made holidays special for her family. Margaret was a ‘people person’. Her relationships with family and friends meant everything to her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, David Sanderson, her son, Bobby, and her daughter, Jane, as well as her brothers, Bob and Jim.

She is survived by her children, David (Stephanie) Sanderson of Fergus Falls, Steve (Susan) Sanderson of Northfield, Paul (Carol) Sanderson of Fergus Falls, Julie (Gary) Selberg of Minnetonka, Nancy (Brian) Koller of Apple Valley, Sara (Scot) Thompson of Green Bay, WI; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and many friends of all ages.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Pioneer Pointe and Suites, where Margaret resided the past 4 years, for their care and kindness.

Memorials are preferred to the Friends of the Library or the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Foundation (CJDfoundation.org).

Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday with a visitation one hour prior at Our Lady of Victory, Fergus
