Margaret Mae Laugen

July 2, 1933 — April 17, 2017

Margaret Mae Laugen, 83, a resident of rural Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully Monday, April 17, 2017, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.

Margaret was born July 2, 1933, to Charles and Mathilda (Trick) Stender of Dent. She was confirmed at Dora Church in 1947. She attended high school in Pelican Rapids.

She worked at the Broen Home as a Nurses Aid for 8 years. She belonged to the Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth where she was involved with WELCA. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She babysat for the neighbors for a short time as well.

On March 31, 1953, Margaret married Glen Laugen at St. John Lutheran Church parsonage in Elizabeth. The couple lived on the family dairy farm where they raised grain, cattle and for a short time, hogs.

Margaret was a homemaker and loved to bake for anybody who enjoyed eating, especially her grandkids. She loved gardening and canning. Everybody enjoyed her famous pickles so much, you couldn’t eat just one.

She lovingly helped out anyone who needed a hand. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her grandkids, watching their sporting events or taking them fishing. She appreciated talking on the phone with friends, family and neighbors. She especially appreciated hearing from her nieces and nephews, even if only for a few minutes.

Preceding her in death were her husband Glen who died in 2015; her parents Charles and Mathilda, sisters, Lila (Victor) Rosenow, Charlotte Johnson, Carol (Arnold) Nord, Gladys (Kenneth) Elbering, and a brother Lloyd Stender.

Survivors include her son, Brian (Cathy) Laugen of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Nichole (Samuel) Odukoya of Moorhead, Jesse (Katie) Laugen of Roseau, Matthew (Lauren Gaffney) Laugen of Richfield, Mariah Laugen of Fergus Falls; great grandchildren, Mkeilah Saurer and Antasia Wheeler; sisters Joyce Ulhig of Fergus Falls, Betty (Jerome) Haldorson of Duluth; brothers Kenneth (Diane) Stender of Fergus Falls, Charles Stender of Barnesville and Clem (Betty) Stender of Albert Lea along with numerous nieces, nephews and many family members.
