Lynell "Lynn" R. Haagenson

Lynell “Lynn” R. Haagenson, 65, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at his home.

Lynn was born on June 19, 1949 in Willmar, MN, the son of Ruby and Russell Haagenson. He attended Madison Elementary School, Fergus Falls Junior High and Fergus Falls Senior High School, graduating in 1967. He attended Fergus Falls Community College and the University of Minnesota in Duluth, graduating in 1972. He received his MSW Degree in 1978 from the University of Minnesota in Duluth. He then received the ACSW Certification in 1980. In 1989 he received his License of Independent Clinical Social Workers. In 2007 he received Emeritus Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.

He worked as a social worker and psychiatric ward administrator before changing careers to become a financial advisor with IDS in Minneapolis.

Lynn will be remembered for his love of books and libraries. He was an organizing member of the Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library, and served as its first treasurer. Lynn also had a love for dogs, many of which were rescue dogs: Lena, Genghis, Stella and his last Bam-Bam. He loved to travel, especially to NYC and New Orleans. He enjoyed listening to Rock & Roll, and NPR (Prairie Home Companion and Car Talk were favorites). He enjoyed gardening and house plants. He truly had a green thumb. Lynn had a talent for carpentry, having built at least one house and one cabin. He had a gift for finishing what he started. Lynn enjoyed motorcycles and touring the countryside with Mike & Sue.

Preceding him death was his father, Russell D. Haagenson and his sister, Karin J. Johnson.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby L. Haagenson of Fergus Falls; sister, LuAnn (Pete) Dehne of Brooklyn Park, MN; brother-in-law, Steven C. Johnson of Fergus Falls; nieces, Abby (John) Briles of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, Tina (Dan) Olson of Rogers, MN, Alyssa Dehne of Brooklyn Park, MN and Kelsey Dehne of Maple Grove, MN; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorials preferred to Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library.

A gathering of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 4-6 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
