Konrad Anthony Hought

April 30, 1938 — January 9, 2018

Konrad Anthony Hought, 79, a resident of Foxhome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 30, 1938, in Menahga, MN to Lowell and Dora (Hasbargen) Hought. Konrad was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church in Menahga and then later confirmed at Foxhome Lutheran Church. In 1950, the Hought family moved to Foxhome and started farming in Andrea Township.

Konrad was drafted in the United States Army and was a surveyor in Korea.

On July 12, 1964, Konrad married Darlene Redetzke at Foxhome Lutheran Church. They raised their family in the Foxhome area. Konrad farmed with his brothers and then later with his sons. At the beginning of his farming career he grew small grains and raised hogs. Later, he took pride in joining the Minn-Dak sugar beet family along with growing wheat, corn, and soybeans.

In his early years, Konrad raced stock cars in Weetown and Fergus Falls with his brother, Johnny. He was a truck driver who hauled prairie hay to Sioux City, Iowa. He also hauled grain to the state of Washington and brought back lumber.

Konrad enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, passing out candy to kids in church, and drinking coffee with whoever came over, especially his spear fishing buddy, Jerry. He was very handy and could fix anything. Plumbing and electrical fixes were his specialty. Konrad mastered his jerky recipe and was well known for his smoked and pickled fish. He took interest in following his grandchildren’s sports closely, attending as many games as possible. He was also a very appreciated babysitter throughout the 24-year span of being a grandpa, often pouring out his love in the form of sugar, fried fish, and homemade donuts. None of the grandkids ever grew out of asking for these and he always obliged.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Corey Hought in 1975; sister, Rose Matta; brother, Leo Hought; sister-in-law, Wanda Hought; and brother-in-law, George Heino.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; five children, Coreen (Rick) Pickett of Maplewood and their children Carley and Christina, Curtis (Cheri) Hought of Breckenridge and their children, Carter (Alli), Carson, and Collynn, Craig Hought of Foxhome, Calvin (Lexi) Hought of Barnesville and their children, Mariah, Briar, and Ariel, Cara (Dustin) Morris of Fergus Falls; siblings, Marty Heino of Wabasha, Tom (Roberta) Hought of Foxhome, Vera (Bud) Miller of Wabasha, John (special friend Kathy) Hought of Foxhome, Barbara (Dean) Larson of Knoxville, IA; sister-in-law Lorene Hought of Breckenridge; and brother-in-law, Ray Matta of Carson, WA. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the Foxhome Lutheran Church.
