Hilda "Connie" Bestul

Hilda “Connie” Bestul, 95, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Broen Home, Fergus Falls.
She was born on July 10, 1919, to Reverend Christian and Harriet (Halvorsen) Bestul in Ettrick, WI. Her father moved the family to Brandon, MN, where Connie graduated from high school in 1937. She then attended Concordia College and graduated from Moorhead Sate College in 1941 with an elementary education teaching degree.
Connie taught elementary education to students in the Seattle, WA area, Powell, WY, Hawley, MN and then Duluth, MN where she retired from teaching in 1981. She was an avid reader and was proud to have taught hundreds of children to read in her career. Connie then moved to St. Anthony Park, to be with her sisters, Valborg and Harriet. In 2000, she moved to Fergus Falls to be with her sister, Signe.
She was a daily walker and was seen all around Fergus Falls out for an afternoon walk. She loved to knit and sew. She made quilts at First Lutheran Church. She traveled extensively seeing Scandanavia, Europe and much of the United States. Connie was an active member of the Sarah Circle at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and visiting with family and friends was a special joy for her.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Marie Bestul, Harriet Bestul, Valborg Bestul, Anne Wegenast Love and Signe Barsness, by brothers, Rev. Harold Bestul, Christian Bestul and Erling Bestul and by nieces Kathy DeBoer and Karin Simonich.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Jan (Marv) Ott of Waverly, IA, Susan (Lynn) Schlessman of Avon, OH, David Wegenast of Buffalo, NY, Karla (Dan) Eberhadt of Madelia, MN, Linda (Jeffrey) Anderson of Bellevue, WA and Richard (Brooke) Barsness of Fergus Falls, MN. She is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls.
Service: Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 1 p.m., at the Dieseth Chapel at PioneerCare Suites, Fergus Falls
