Harold P. Haugen

Harold P. Haugen, 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Park Gardens in Fergus Falls.
He was born July 30, 1921 to Peter and Mary (Nelson) Haugen in Fergus Falls. He grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls.
Harold was called to serve in the United States Army July 1942, serving his country in WWII in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged December 1945.
On August 12, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mae Louise Norgren in Elizabeth. The couple resided in Fergus Falls where Harold was employed by Desoto Company. The couple then moved to Elizabeth where Harold worked at the Elizabeth Creamery, Fergus Falls Lumber Yard and then in 1960 the Regional Treatment Center. Harold retired as a Cook Supervisor from the RTC in 1983.
Harold was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Fergus Falls VFW Post 612.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, playing the accordion and dancing. Harold also loved to make foods that were pertinent to his Scandinavian heritage like lefse and lutefisk. Most of all, Harold loved spending time with his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Harold’s greatest pleasure in retirement was teaching his grandchildren to fish and spending time with them and vacationing with Mae.
Preceding him in death were his parents; eight brothers and two sisters.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Mae Haugen of Fergus Falls; children, Carol (Rick) Smith of New Berlin, WI, Candace (Randy) Catoe of Ashby; grandchildren, Jesse Smith of Vernon, WI, Anthony (Elizabeth) Smith of New Berlin, WI, Alexis (Ryan) Erickson of Roseville, Jamie (Michael) Wahl of Fergus Falls; great-grandson, Dylan Erickson; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, VFW Post 612 or Lakeland Hospice.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
